The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA), in partnership with the LA County Fire Department and Ventura County Fire Department, is conducting critical fuels reduction projects to protect communities from wildfire with $3.2 Million in early action Proposition 4 fire prevention funds granted  to the fire departments by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy.

Starting in September 2025:

Los Angeles County Fire Prevention Projects:

Ventura County Fire Prevention Projects:

In March 2025, Governor Newsom issued an Emergency Proclamation to fast-track prevention of catastrophic wildfire across California. This allows projects like these to proceed quickly while following the Statewide-Fuels-Reduction-Environmental-Protection-Plan  (EPP), designed to minimize harm to public health and the environment.

The Regional Forest and Fire Capacity (RFFC) Program funded project development and capacity building activities to support these projects. Administered and funded by the California Department of Conservation, the RFFC Program supports local and regional efforts to create a pipeline of shovel-ready wildfire resilience projects.
