Los Angeles County, April 7, 2026 — The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) announced today that a generous donor has conveyed a total of 470 acres of pristine Santa Monica Mountains open space for permanent protection and conservation. The land is located in the Seminole Hot Springs area including land above Tunnel No. 1 on Kanan Road. The newly protected acreage also borders the TreePeople La Sierra Preserve and a Los Angeles County Open Space parcel, further strengthening regional conservation efforts. Because the donation spans both sides of Kanan Road, it creates an unusually wide wildlife corridor linking the La Sierra and Lobo Canyon tributary watersheds— an important feature for habitat connectivity in the area.
