MRCA Park Rangers are sworn California Peace Officers as well as certified Wildland Firefighters. They are responsible for keeping all members of the public safe in the 75,000 acres of parkland owned by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority.
Some of the many, many functions MRCA Park Rangers serve include safety patrol, emergency medical aid, public outreach, law enforcement, natural resource management, interpretation, park maintenance, and training. Rangers assist other agencies with backcountry search and rescue and other emergency operations such as swift water rescue during storm events.
Our Rangers patrol and are at the heart of the programming of the Los Angeles River Recreation Zone.
MRCA Rangers also provide contract services to other local park agencies including the Puente Hills Habitat Preservation Authority and the Watershed Conservation Authority.
In a region serving more than 10 million people, MRCA Rangers are critical to making the park user experience safe and enjoyable.
