Permission to Access MRCA Parkland for Brush Clearance
With fire risk at an all-time high and our communities on edge after the recent tragedies, the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) provides property owners, renters, occupants, and property managers permission to enter its Parkland to do brush clearance required by city or county ordinance to protect their homes or other structures on their property.
You should have received a letter granting you permission to access MRCA Parkland for brush clearance.
If you did not receive a letter and you believe you need to clear brush on MRCA Parkland, please contact mrcafireprevention@mrca.ca.gov.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are my brush clearance obligations?
The MRCA does not regulate brush clearance. Responsible parties should check with the following local agencies for brush clearance obligations:
City of L.A. Brush Clearance Requirements
L.A. County Brush Clearance Requirements
Ventura County Brush Clearance Requirements
Is there a map of my property and adjacent Parkland?
Click here to access the mapping tool.
To use the mapping tool, type your address in the search box. Use the measure tool (ruler icon) to add a marker to the exterior wall of your structure. Drag the mouse from the marker away from your structure until you have covered the amount of defensible space required by your local jurisdiction (e.g. 200 feet). Repeat with each exterior wall of your structure until you’ve calculated the defensible space area from each exterior wall (North, East, South, and West).
What other activities may I undertake on MRCA Parkland?
The MRCA is providing you with permission to conduct brush clearance activities on MRCA Parkland as required by the appropriate local government only. Members of the public are welcome to enjoy MRCA Parkland pursuant to the MRCA Park Ordinance (available here) and other applicable laws and regulations.
While conducting brush clearance activities, all tree protection regulations (available here) must be followed. Upon completion, all cuttings and debris must be removed from MRCA Parkland.
Are there other ways to protect my property and mitigate the risk of wildfire?
